GPSA Brings Home Gold and Silver from MYSL’s Top Division
The Grosse Pointe Soccer Association is justifiably proud of its two oldest boys travel teams. Both the U18 Salvo ’91, coached by Steve Miller, and the U17+ Salvo ’92, coached by Rich Carron, competed in the very tough Premier Division of the Michigan Youth Soccer League’s U19 bracket. Salvo ’91 took the Division title with an 8 – 2 – 2 record, and Salvo ’92 captured second place, only a point behind with an 8 – 3 – 1 record. In doing so, they each bested several teams that had moved from the MSPSP, including one from the First Division of that statewide league.
This spring Salvo ’91 scored a respectable 28 goals in 12 games, but its defense was incredibly stingy, allowing only 10 goals. Every other team in the division had at least 20 goals against. Salvo ’91 recorded five shut-outs, and no team scored more than two goals against them in any game. They beat every team in the division at least once. That record mirrored closely the team’s record from last spring when it captured the title in MYSL’s U17 First Division.
At the same time, the Salvo ’92 offense recorded the most goals for, 34, of any team in the Premier Division while allowing only 21. They also beat every other team in the Division at least once with the exception of Salvo ’91. Although this spring’s Salvo ’92 included several older players on its roster, the heart of the team will be returning next year to compete as a U18 team. Interested players are invited to tryouts after their high school season in the fall.

Breakers 95 Green Capture 2 Tourney Titles!!
The Breakers 95 Green opened their 2009 spring season by traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio in late March to compete in the CFA United Cup. Battling the elements as well as teams from Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan, the Breakers outscored their opponents 12 to 1 and came home with the first of two tournament victories this spring. The photo above was taken after the Breakers recent tournament victory in the Gold division of the Novi Jaguar Invitational where they beat the host team, Novi Jaguars Premier, 3-1 in the final.
